夫の墓に小彼岸桜咲きはじめ 正子
●１時から彼岸法会がお寺であったので出席。今日は気温が高く、初夏のような陽気だった。この陽気が夕方まで続いたが、夜はすこし冷えた。法会への参加の記にアレンジフラワーの小さい鉢を頂いたので、お墓に供えた。
今日のお墓は、お彼岸のお花がたくさん供えられて華やかだった。先月は河津桜が咲き始めていたが、一か月後の今日はほとんど散って、葉が出始めていた。信之先生の墓の傍の桜は咲き始めたところだった。染井吉野ではなく、小彼岸桜のようだった。満開になっている桜もあった。他の墓域には辛夷とエリカが咲いている。パンジーやクリスマスローズもよく咲いて、入口のには金魚と水草がはやくも涼しそうな風情だった。お墓にいると、啄木鳥のドラミングが聞こえ、下の方からは雄鶏の鳴き声、向こうの藪からは鶯の声が聞こえた。日傘が欲しいくらいの日差しで、上着を脱いで、ブラウスでちょうどよかった。休憩所では冷たい緑茶を頂いた。
帰宅は４時になった。それから句美子から頼まれたお菜を作り届けた。春キャベツの千切りがリストに上がっていたので、久しぶりに春キャベツの千切りを作る。確かに美味しい。
夕飯の後、炬燵にはいっていたら、うたた寝。「自由な投句箱」の秀句を選び、コメントを付けたのは、夜中近くだった。

Today, I attended the Higan (Equinox) ceremony at the temple. The monk chanted sutras in a resonant, echoing voice that filled the hall—oh—n oh–n. On the Buddhist altar, behind the large candles, artificial, pale-colored lotus flowers were arranged. They looked cool, perfectly complementing today’s hot temperature. Of course, beautiful fresh flowers were also arranged.
After the ceremony, I visited my husband’s tomb. There, I heard a rooster crowing “cock-a-doodle-doo” below the graveyard. In the trees beside the yard, a woodpecker was drumming drum-drum-drum. In the distance, I heard a nightingale (uguisu in Japanese) singing its lovely “hoh-hokekyo, hoh—hokekyo.” Beside my husband’s tomb, the ko-higanzakura (Equinox cherry blossoms with smaller petals) had just begun to bloom. These delicate blossoms always bloom in time for the Equinox.
Heute nahm ich an der Higan-Zeremonie (Tagundnacht-gleiche) im Tempel teil. Nach der Zeremonie besuchte ich das Grab meines Mannes. Dort hörte ich unten auf dem Friedhof einen Hahn krähen ‚Kikeriki‘. In den Bäumen neben dem Friedhof trommelte ein Specht mit einem ‚Trommel-trommel-trommel‘. In der Ferne sang eine Nachtigall (auf Japanisch Uguisu) ihr schönes ‚Hoh-hokekyo, hoh—hokekyo‘."
